Carburetor recommended:
> Malossi PHBH 30 art.1610982 out of production
If you keep original carburetor you must use jets from the kit.
Malossi recommend kept the original exhaust
> Spark plug: Denso W 27 ES-ZU or W 31 ES-ZU for aggressive drive or equivalent like NGK BR10ES
Torque - Head 1,7Kgm and more 6/7mm / Cylinder 2Kgm
RC valves must be those from NSR version
Malossi recommend keep original ignition
Quality Review:
Rushed finish in the outside, Very good machined with some very little molding imperfection in the air channels, normal from series production and completely acceptable! A quality masterpiece!
The piston is not polished like the Vertex versions or race prepared like the Athena 66mm but got 3 exhaust side oil channels and it seems to be good!
My opinion: Malossi sight one demand in the market of big bore for nsr125/crm125 and gave us a complete, good designed and quality product back in the ‘00, nowadays the Athena 66mm race kit is long gone, the Polini 60mm is out too and Malossi survived! Clearly because of OE quality and a price tag just unbeatable! Today the is no other away to go for a big bore, but the way is amazing good! Thank you Malossi
TUNING:
With this compression rate and big bore you can expect fuel economy in middle range with decent driving condition. Nice! But you will put more effort in the conrod bearing.
Easy path:
This kit is, in my opinion, thought for all the owner that want a little more power in medium range but don’t wanna the trouble modifying the intake drastically, rejetting and so on! I mean adult people must likely
Thank you Malossi, you know what I like!
So, if you put this kit and kept the carburetor PHBH28 (because Malossi PHBH30 is out production) but change the jets with those from the kit, I guess you will find 32cv with no trouble, and a better riding then the original, my guess!!
Other option is to bore out your carburetor to 30mm!! I bored mine to 31mm.
Race path:
If you are a kid and you think you will beet them all with this kit then you are looking for the RACE POWER path, BEWARE, you will find very much trouble to adapt the conjunct of admission – carburetor - air box, and you need a new ignition curve, maybe a programmable ignition and a race exhaust.
Don’t be foll! If you wanna power from this kit you will need to go all that way! Everything must be changed and adjust! So much work and trouble for newbies and kids! If you don’t know how, please, leave it to a professional mechanic or simple follow the Easy path, it will save you much money and trouble! You are warned!
- Mandatory:
New Crank Bearings C4
New Reinforced Conrod
New Reinforced Needle bearing and Conrod
Reinforced Clutch / Clutch springs
Sparkplug NGK BR10EIX or equivalent
- Carburetor Option 1:
Polini PWK 34 – The best quality/price PWK clone carburetor in mine opinion, you got Koso too.
You will need to reject and you have to adapt the connection between carburetor and air box.
Dellorto VHSH 30 – It fits on the intake side, reject and adapt as well!
- Carburetor Option 2:
Dellorto PHBE - Remember, if you buy one used check if it is not a 4 stroke carburetor! If it is, you have to change the internal parts to bring it to 2 stroke.
Dellorto PHBE have different intakes and air filter connection. So you will have to find yourself a solution!
Dellorto VHSB - Used in some Aprilia RS and Cagiva Mito.
- Carburetor Option 3:
Any other carburetor! They are so many! Mikuni, Kheini, Koso, Polini, Malossi, Lectron, Yoshimura, etc
What I did (still in progress) as a example:
My setup was thought for every day performance and economy. So there is no need for big numbers, REMEMBER, a 2 stroke RACE bike is awful in everyday driving, they have no low/mid range power! But they only have big numbers in high range, I do not pretend racing. Just a better riding with some more mid range power and a good mileage, and I think must of us do want the same.
Original Dellorto PHBH 28 FD bored to 31,5mm, this carburetor got Power Jet, others like Aprilia PHBH 28 BD don’t have.
Italkit 26.40 double prism carbon intake V flaps -> Review
Original air box -> You can use a performance air filter like Malossi E15 or E16 ref.0413434 / 0413435 for example, but original air box are more quiet and do influence in mid range performance.
Air filter Polini 203.0145 cut by measure -> Original Honda air filter is fine too.
Programmable CDI Transmic AC-CDI 16F628 v7.9 -> DIY PIC8 based CDI - Is cheap and meant for everyone looking for a non professional/racer programmable CDI -> will post a Review
Spark plug NGK BR10EIX -> NGK is my preferred brand
Original Exhaust -> Original Exhaust have a very good mid range power effect
Reinforced Clutch discs TRW
Reinforced Clutch springs EBC -> EBC says 20% more
New friction discs TRW
